Horseneck Beach and New Bedford, MA
For Ellie's birthday, we went camping at Horseneck Beach State Reservation near the MA-RI border along Buzzards' Bay. It was a nice quiet area, where we could camp by the beach and read stimulating literature (or pulp, depending on our mood)
Aquatic Gria
Camp set up on night #1
Camp set up on night #2. Note the addition of the second tent. On night #1 we were visited by Mephitis mephitis (also known as the SKUNK). Gria and the blue tent got the worst of it but the tent was unsleepable...for some reason, I had thrown an extra tent in the car, so we set it up in a stupor and crashed that night. We brought Gria in the tent the next night.
Horseneck was a short drive from New Bedford
We visited the excellent New Bedford Whaling Museum as I was reading the story of the whaleship Essex ("stove by a whale") at the time. Interesting history, though a bit grim for whale and man alike.
